Your Handsome Dan-Lovin' GPSS Weekly Announcements

Last year dear Jeeps, they took my hammer.  The authorities that is, as in New Haven’s finest.  You would think you can get away with playing an honest game that happens to involve a box of nails, a giant tree stump and a hammer flying through the air in the midst of a sea of reveling sauced-up underclassman would be free from criticism, but alas, tis not the case.  To boot, having situ’d our tailgate in the midst of said undergrads, those same authorities took no hesitation in procuring our beloved tap, leading to a frenzied hands-on effort by a bevy of Forestry students seeking to engineer contingent access into our beloved Yuengling kegs imported all the way from Jersey – exact conversation between myself and a police officer earlier that morning when he came to inspect our kegs:

 Officer:  These kegs don’t have (Connecticut serial) tags on them.

Me:        That’s because I had my friends bring them up from Jersey.

Officer:  I’m not sure that’s legal.

Me:        Well, I’m in the middle of throwing a massive tailgate using these exact kegs, so he we are then.)   {exeunt stage right}

Little did I know they’d come back for the taps….. and my precious hammer.  Well Jeeps, not this year.  I’ve gone straight, legit, toeing the proverbial line…. mostly because I have to leave The Game to run the Philly Marathon the next morning, but for you Jeeps, it should be glorious, tremendous, a cornucopia of Lot D affectation and I wish you the best of all of it.  Be safe, but more importantly, be merry.  Mirth is all GPSS asks of you.

Oh, and what’s that, GPSS has a brand spankin’ new facebook group (say, what?!).  Durn skippy, get in the know here.

GPSS Thanksgiving Food Drive
Friday & Saturday, Nov. 19th-20th @ Homecoming Party & Yale-Harvard Tailgate

Did you know that in Connecticut, there are more than 400,000 people at risk of hunger every year?  These are people from all walks of life – children, working parents, seniors, people with disabilities, etc. GPSS is holding a Thanksgiving food drive, with all donations going towards the Downtown Evening Soup Kitchen (DESK).  The mission of DESK is to provide free, nutritious meals for homeless individuals, families, and the working and non-working poor of the Greater New Haven area. DESK serves hot evening meals, packs free bag lunches, stocks food pantry bags, and maintains an emergency food bank for people in crisis (http://www.downtowneveningsoupkitchen.com/). GPSS representatives will be at the doors of GPSCY this coming Friday night and Saturday night (Go Yale! Beat Harvard!) taking donations in the form of canned goods with pull tops, traditional non-perishable Thanksgiving items, and spices.  Monetary donations are also accepted and greatly appreciated.  All proceeds will go to benefit the hungry and homeless of New Haven’s downtown community.  If you’d like to help out or have any questions, please contact laura.west@yale.edu.

***Please note: A Thought in Three Parts contains nudity, strong language, and adult content. So we’ll see you there.

What is the relationship of sex and intimacy? What is the relationship of sex and violence? What about intimacy and violence? When we're seeking one of these three, why do we sometimes wind up with one of the others?

This controversial play by Wallace Shawn (Aunt Dan and Lemon, The Fever) – which, due to its explicit nature, has only received one other full production in the United States since its writing in 1976 – explores these questions in the form of three short plays that come together to form a fractured and complex "thought."

 GPSS Day at Yale Sustainable Food Project

Mark your calendars for Sunday, December 4th from 1-5pm – it’s Graduate and Professional Student Day at the Yale Sustainable Food Project!  The Sustainable Food Project manages an organic farm on campus, runs diverse programs that support exploration and academic inquiry related to food and agriculture, and collaborates on a sustainable dining program at Yale (http://www.yale.edu/sustainablefood/).  GPSS will be heading out to the Yale Farm and volunteering a few hours to help with readying the farm for the coming winter. Light manual labor to be expected, but rest assured, it will be accompanied by hot apple cider and awarded with appetizers and drinks somewhere on the walk home.  This should be a great event, and they’re very excited to have us!  All graduate and professional students and their families are welcome.  Sign up HERE!  Any questions, please contact laura.west@yale.edu.
