All of the show’s proceeds go to fund college scholarships for HPREP, the Health Professions Recruitment and Enrichment Program, a 10-week program that brings area high school students to the medical school on Saturday mornings for classes on health-related topics. Crowdsourcing Jeeps.  This past weekend I escaped an awkward conversation at a bar piggyback-style.  The individual to whom I was speaking wasn’t quite picking up my hints of wanting to leave the conversation, so I escaped the only way that seemed appropriate at the time:  jumping on my friend Jose’s back and having him ferry me elsewhere.

Which leads me to the crowdsourcing question of the week: what’s your most memorable escape from an awkward/terrible conversation, GPSCY or otherwise?  Top responses posted here next week.

Writing, that most creative of processes; limitless opportunities to express our personal and professional aspirations in concentrated form.  And yet, dear Jeeps, why is it that this most inspired of pursuits is so forcedly impossible when we seek to compose fluid, coherent cover letters, personal statements, synopses, summaries and mock drafts to the most prominent of our abilities?  Perhaps it’s that our efforts feel so enclosed, perhaps even restricted by the task at hand.  Therefore, for the betterment of your mind this week Jeeps, I provide you with

Zen and the art of digging your car out Jeeps,

It’s a sort of tragedy of the commons.  A few inches of snow and you learn all about the type of snow shovelers your neighbors are.  There are the ones who get out there right after the last snowflake has fallen and move the snow into orderly piles between street and sidewalk.  There are others who need to get somewhere and the snow ends up in makeshift berms or piles.  And then a few days later, the rain falls and erases all evidence of our efforts and engagement.  To a point, tis quite literally, sublime.

In the midst of family and friends, here's to hoping that Thanksgiving break provided all of you with some measure of what a friend of mine once described to me as a "deafening roar of silence," i.e. some measure of quiet before the storm of the last few weeks of the semester.  But with December, of course, comes ski season so it's just about time to bust out your equipment in preparation for the looming break and keep it someplace close as inspiration.  Fresh powder and winning the future as motivation.

Your Handsome Dan-Lovin' GPSS Weekly Announcements

Last year dear Jeeps, they took my hammer.  The authorities that is, as in New Haven’s finest.  You would think you can get away with playing an honest game that happens to involve a box of nails, a giant tree stump and a hammer flying through the air in the midst of a sea of reveling sauced-up underclassman would be free from criticism, but alas, tis not the case.  To boot, having situ’d our tailgate in the midst of said undergrads, those same authorities took no hesitation in procuring our beloved tap, leading to a frenzied hands-on effort by a bevy of Forestry students see
